One-Stop Shopping to Restore your Yard and Shore
Outreach
The Rice Creek Watershed District is pleased to introduce the One-Stop Shopping to Restore your Yard and Shore program. Native plantings have many benefits over traditional gardens: they are lower maintenance, they can help with shoreline stabilization and they provide erosion control. Beyond these things, native plantings are quite beautiful. Because of all of these factors, there has recently been a renewed interest by homeowners and lakeshore residents in restoring their yards and shorelines. This program is intended to help these individuals with their projects and to get other people interested.

On this page, you will find an introductory video, a manual and extensive planning documentation to help walk you through the process of planning and implementing a native planting. Also, an important part of this program, is the partnership we have formed with several local nurseries, who have been trained to help with this type of planting. In addition, these nurseries will carry many of the plants you will need and the landscaping supplies necessary to bring a project such as this to completion. The Participating retailers are Landscape Alternatives in Roseville, Lebens Floral at Old Town Marketin Hugo, Linder’s Garden Center in St. Paul and Rice Creek Gardens in Blaine.
We would also like to thank the Anoka Conservation District and the University of Minnesota Extension Service for their help and the resources provided with this program.
