Permit Sureties & Bonds

Sureties are generally required of all applicants, and are set by the District engineer after initial review of the project application. A surety is a monetary sum provided by the applicant to the District. The District returns the money to the applicant after project completion if all permit conditions are met. For surety amounts of $5000 or less, the applicant must provide the District with a check made out to the Rice Creek Watershed District. For surety amounts over $5000, the applicant must provide the first $5000 in the form of a check and has the option of providing the remainder of the surety amount in the form of a Letter of Credit(doc).

Upon completion of a permitted project, the permitee and/or their contractor should contact the District Inspector or complete and mail the Certificate of Permit Completion (pdf) to the District. After the District Inspector has completed an inspection and determined that the project was constructed in compliance with the permit conditions, the surety amount is returned to the applicant.
