RCWD and Conservation Corps MN & IA Partner on Stormwater Management in Fridley

The Rice Creek Watershed District hosted a field crew this summer from Conservation Corps MN & IA. The crew installed and maintained stormwater management projects such as rain gardens across Fridley. This collaborative effort addresses water quality issues in the Rice Creek and Locke Lake subwatershed area, particularly focusing on stormwater management.

Throughout this week, RCWD staff and crew members have been working together to complete this project. By cleaning out pre-treatment chambers, removing waste/garbage, weeding treatment basins, and planting native species, the crew is ensuring these stormwater management projects are well maintained so they can function for years to come.

The significance of this partnership is the positive impact it will have on stormwater management within the community. By maintaining and planting rain gardens, this project will reduce runoff, improve water quality, and improve the overall health of the watershed and lakes.

The Conservation Corps crew members gain valuable experience in conservation efforts and urban watershed management practices. This project not only benefits the immediate area but also serves as a learning opportunity for the young adult crew members to understand the significance of their contributions to water resource conservation.

Thank you to the City of Fridley and the dedicated Conservation Corp crew members for their partnership and coordination in this project.
